10 Questions for All Electric Dog Fencing Shoppers
So you have decided to buy an electric dog fencing system. You've learned the basics, that there is a wide range of electronic pet containment products out there. When it comes down to choosing a dog fence system, consider whether these items matter to you and ask containment professionals these questions:
1: How long have you been in the dog fence business AND (part 2) how long have you serviced electric fences in this area?
-many companies come and go and longevity is a the best indicator a company will be there for you when you need them.
2: What kind of containment training will be done AND (part 2) How much is included with a complete pet fence system?
-many companies lowball prices with little or no humane training.
-many companies accelerate the training by correcting your dog harder than necessary.
3: What is the warranty?
-many companies use warranty as a profit center. Overseas made product often fails so frequently that warranty charges are set up to create huge profits -ironically, the less safe your fence, the more money corporate America makes. (buy American!)
-lifetime warranties on electric dog containment products are common now, so don't accept less!
4: Is the product made in America or overseas?
-90% + of electric fence systems are made in China and overseas. Watch the marketing budget for examples of the extra money available when cheaper manufacturing is chosen.
5: What is the installation guarantee?
-A 1-2 year guarantee assures proper installation and time to find any real problems.
6: Is the seller an aurthorized representative of the brand they are offering?
-It is common ploy to leave unknowing buyers with cheap, store bought or online systems, yet charge for professional grade systems and installation.
-If you choose to buy a cheap system, buy it yourself and consider letting a pro install it. They will use a better grade of wire than you will find, and you can always trade up if your Chinese made product fails the second or third time.
7: Okay, every company sounds competitive. Now ask the back breaker.
If I wanted to get in my car right now and drive to the factory, what is the address?
That is a trick question because almost no one will want to answer it.
There is only one manufacturer with ON SITE manufacturing, engineering etc, with ALL employees and no sub contractorrs.
8: How large is their electric pet containment service area?
-Beware giant companies.
-Local companies are always best.
9: Check references. Professional references are much more useful than consumer endorsements.
10: What kind and how deep will the wire be? They should bury a thick jacketed wire underground. A wired fence requires continuity, broken fences cause down time.
